Endometrial Biopsy

The endometrium is the mucosa which lines the internal surface of the uterus. Endometrial biopsy is an examination that takes a sample of tissue inside the uterus. It is then placed in a liquid medium and sent to the laboratory.

The examination allows:

• establish the cause of infertility or abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• detect endometrial cancer.

An endometrial biopsy is a procedure that usually only takes about 10 minutes and is done without anesthesia.
