Tonsillitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the tonsils and is usually caused by bacteria and rarely by a virus.
These lymphatic organs are actively involved in defending the body by producing white blood cells and antibodies. It is normal that tissues become engorged during an immune defense but they quickly return to normal thereafter.
Signs and symptoms of frequent tonsillitis:
• Throat pain
• Significantly increase pain on swallowing
• Pain radiating to the ears
• Generalized malaise
• Headaches and vomiting (common)
